STORYLINE:

32 students from Muscatine High School of Iowa, the United States, visited Shanghai on Wednesday and Thursday during a week-long study tour that also included Beijing and Hebei.

The students participated in various friendship activities and visited well-known scenic spots. They expressed eagerness to share their experiences in China with family and friends once they return home.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): ADJO JOSEPHINE ADJOGBLE, Student of Muscatine High School
"While we're here, they're already curious back home, and they're like, oh you're posting this, you're seeing this. Like, how is that for you? And when we go back, we'll be able to tell them after first-hand experience, just how beautiful it is, because they only saw it through pictures, but we saw it with our own eyes. So I feel like it will be more meaningful when we tell them and describe just the little bit of details that were there that they couldn't see."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): COLIN ENLOW MILLAGE, Student of Muscatine High School
"I will be telling them (friends in the U.S.) all about it. If they ask me questions, I will talk about how beautiful the country is, the culture, just everything that goes along with it. Even just the architecture and just the gardens that are surrounding all of us. It's absolutely amazing and beautiful. And the people are amazing, too. They're so nice and giving."

The Muscatine High School delegation is part of a China-initiated program that will invite 50,000 American youths to China within five years for exchanges and study. The delegation is the second batch from the school.
