Madrid, Spain - April 15, 2024

In a startling turn of events, a Colombian woman, aged 50, has been remanded into custody following her arrest in the early hours of Monday morning. The arrest came after she was found driving her car for several kilometers in the wrong direction on the A-5 highway, eventually entering the underground tunnels of the ring road.

Upon interception by law enforcement officers, the woman displayed clear signs of intoxication, struggling to exit her vehicle and exhibiting unsteady movements, a strong odor of alcohol, and difficulty in speech, as reported by responding officers. Subsequent breathalyzer tests revealed an alcohol level nearly four times the legal limit, measuring at 0.91 mg/l in breath.

However, the shock intensified when officers discovered a package containing one kilogram of cocaine concealed within the woman's clothing during a search of her vehicle. She later claimed ignorance of the drugs' presence and professed no knowledge of how they came to be in her possession.

The woman faces charges including reckless driving, endangerment of public safety, and drug trafficking, according to police sources.

The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on Monday, when multiple drivers reported a Honda Civic traveling in the wrong direction towards Madrid on the A-5 highway's exit lanes, in the Campamento neighborhood. The woman narrowly avoided collisions with several vehicles, with fortunate evasive actions by other drivers.

Police officers were able to stop the woman's car inside the M-30 tunnels. She was safely brought to the roadside without endangering other vehicles or buses on the road around 2:00 a.m., according to the police report.

Following statements from witnesses and surveillance camera footage review, authorities determined that the intercepted vehicle had traveled more than three kilometers in the wrong direction.

In court, the accused exercised her right to remain silent, both at the police station and during the initial stages of the legal process.
