STORYLINE:

The 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, or Auto China 2024, kicked off at the China International Exhibition Center in Shunyi District, Beijing on Thursday. 

Themed "Driving to Smart Mobility," this year's event has attracted automotive brands from both home and abroad.

At this event, 117 cars are set to have their global debuts, with 30 of them being global premieres by multinational companies. 

41 concept cars and 278 new energy vehicle models will also be showcased.

Fabian Brandt, partner and global head of Automotive and Industrial Goods of the management consulting firm Oliver Wyman, noted that the event presents numerous choices for consumers and provides insights into the industry's most recent advancements.

"Well, I think from a consumer standpoint, it's very exciting to see the enormous range of options that you now have. There's such an abundance of EV manufacturers that are available. (There are) so many different models, so many options. So I think that is great from a consumer standpoint. I think it's also fantastic to see the level of technological integration that you have between your communication devices, for example, and the vehicle. And obviously, if we look at, for example, autonomous driving, it's also exciting to see that in a space where you have long commutes, autonomous driving will offer a lot of convenience also to consumers. And I think overall, it's a very positive development from a consumer standpoint."

The event will end on May 4.
