Rescue crews clear debris to reopen the key Baltimore Channel. The operation began on April 21, 2024, and aims to safely and efficiently open the Fort McHenry Channel. The unified command, Key Bridge Response 2024, oversees efforts to ensure the safety of the public and first responders, account for missing persons, restore transportation infrastructure and commerce, protect the environment and assist with incident investigations.
Drone footage captured on April 23, 2024, illustrates progress in removing debris from the Patapsco River. In the process of cleaning the river, three temporary alternative channels were created, and another channel is planned to be created this week.
