Heavy rains caused widespread devastation across Jammu and Kashmir - sparking a landslide that killed a boy on Monday.

Footage shows the landslide tearing down a hillside home in Uri near the Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

In Ramban, a landslide crashed down a hill nearby. the Chenab River and destroyed a house. Rescue teams retrieved the body of a boy from the rubble.

Officials said the incessant rainfall triggered multiple landslides in the Ramban district, including Mehar, Gangroo, Mom Passi, and Kishtwari Pather. This forced the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the sole all-weather road connecting Kashmir to the rest of the country.

Snowfall continued for the third day in Peer Ki Gali and surrounding areas, blocking the Mughal Road. The crucial route serves as an alternate connection between Poonch, Rajouri districts in Jammu and Shopian district in south Kashmir.

The Meteorological Department warned that rising water levels in rivers, lakes, and streams across Kashmir over the past three days posed an additional threat. They predicted similar weather conditions to persist for the next 24 hours.
