A woman who is part of a throuple says people tell her she’s “going to hell” – but claims their relationship is like any other.

Alana, 27, and her boyfriend Kevin, 33, met their girlfriend Megan, 37, two years ago via a dating app, and now live together in bliss.

The trio share everything; they split the bills, have a list of chores and sleep in the same bed every night.

And they’ve recently bought a puppy, too.

But their controversial relationship set-up often angers others who believe they are committing a sin.

“Fear often drives hateful reactions, especially when people encounter something new,” Alana, a marketing assistant, told What's The Jam.

“It sometimes feels like people are looking for drama or to poke holes in our relationship.

“We knew when we started dating that unfortunately some people like to destroy beautiful things and we think questions like that fall into that category.

“While we strive not to let negativity affect us, it's admittedly tough.”

Kevin and Alana were initially in a relationship; they started dating in 2017 and later decided to find a third person so that Alana could “explore her sexuality”.

She said: “I brought it up to Kevin to see if he would want to do that with me.

“We were initially just looking for something fun, nothing too serious, but after talking with Megan and getting to know her, everyone wanted to make it a permanent thing.

“We were drawn to committing to this type of relationship after talking every day for a month, and after meeting in person at a café, we realised we immediately clicked really well.”

There have been instances where individuals, including family members, have struggled to accept the trio’s relationship’s dynamic.

She said: “It's challenging when loved ones can't embrace who we are together.

“Additionally, we've faced backlash from those whose beliefs don't align with our lifestyle.

“Despite our efforts to respond with love, the weight of negative comments can sometimes feel overwhelming.”

In a viral video on Instagram, the throuple reveal some of the most common things people say to them – including that they are going to “hell”.

Or annoyingly asking if they will add a “fourth” to the mix.

For Kevin, who works as head of programme management, Alana and Megan, dealing with the negativity has actually made their relationship stronger.

She said: “In any relationship, communication is vital but in our dynamic, it's absolutely crucial.

“It's been a learned skill to consistently express our feelings and concerns without reservation, and it's something we continue to actively practice.”

And they say their life doesn’t look all that different to traditional set-ups.

The trio split the bills, share household chores and sleep in the same bed together.

Alana said: “Megan loves cooking so she primarily does that.

“Me and Kevin are also happy to do it when she wants a break.

“We pretty much split everything evenly including rent and bills.

“We will of course treat each other here and there with meals or gifts just like any other couple.

“We also have chores, even though we choose our preferred ones.

“Kevin is always a gentleman and cleans the bathrooms!

“Being in a throuple has brought us surprising positives that have enriched our lives in unexpected ways.

“One remarkable aspect is the depth and variety of emotional support we offer each other.

“Despite the external judgement, our commitment to each other and the strength of our relationship have helped us weather these challenges and emerge even stronger.

“The amount of love shared between us is really beautiful!”
