Terrified passengers used an emergency inflatable slide to escape a smoke-filled plane, with one woman injured in the painful landing on the tarmac in Venezuela.

Laser Airlines flight QL-943 landed at the Simon Bolivar Airport in Maiquetia in Vargas, Venezuela, just outside the capital Caracas, at around 10 am on Sunday, April 28.

The 37-year-old McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft, built in 1987 and bearing the registration number YV3465, had reportedly just landed with 91 people onboard after arriving from Maracaibo, also in Venezuela.

The aircraft cabin reportedly began filling with smoke, causing an emergency evacuation, with passengers then sliding down the inflatable slides on either side of the aircraft.

At least three passengers were injured.

One woman is seen in the video unable to handle the momentum caused by her carrying her bag before she stumbles and faceplants on the runway.

The footage shows at least two other people injuring themselves in a similar fashion, with one person landing on their behind and another person landing on their side before they are helped to their feet by members of staff.

Firefighters arrived at the scene as an ambulance arrived to take care of the injured.

It is currently unclear what caused the smoke to begin filling the air applying cabin and the airline has yet to comment on the incident.
