STORYLINE:

32 local employees from the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) Uganda branch have just completed a two-week educational program.

This training was jointly organized by CCCC and Wuhan City Polytechnic (WCP) located in Hubei Province, central China.

The educational series, known as the "Seagull Project," is the company's flagship initiative to cultivate local talent.

It encompasses a range of theoretical and hands-on courses, including engineering graphics, construction equipment operation, and practical Chinese language instruction.

The CCCC Uganda employees highlighted the valuable skills they gained through the training.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): FAITH KIRONDE, CCCC Uganda Employee
"Initially when I was at the site, I used to do more theoretical things, paperwork, and then inspections, but during the training, I really learned a lot of things hands-on. I have learned how to fix steel (rebar tying). I have learned stone pitching, earthworks, how they are done from scratch up to when the road comes to surfacing. So I have really learned a lot of practical work and a lot of Chinese."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): ABEL MUSIITWA, CCCC Uganda Employee
"What I have learned most is the teamwork in this training. There have been different departments of construction and we have been brought together to work as a team to learn from each other."

The company representative said the training project aligns with the company's localization strategy, which aims to create additional job opportunities for local residents and bolster their income levels.

SOUNDBITE 3 (CHINESE): ZHAO WEI, Representative of CCCC Uganda
"As we are considering the future development of the company, achieving better and sustainable growth significantly depends on the active involvement of local employees and their professional expertise."

SOUNDBITE 4 (ENGLISH): ABEL MUSIITWA, CCCC Uganda Employee
"They are improving the lives of Ugandans by providing job opportunities, trainings and also improving the livelihoods."

CCCC has undertaken various projects in Uganda, contributing to job creation for thousands of Ugandans.
