Metal stool reflecting sun sets alight cardboard outside restaurant
A metal stool reflecting the sun set alight pieces of cardboard outside a restaurant during the scorching hot weather in Thailand.
CCTV footage shows the stainless steel chair outside the establishment with the supply boxes under the sunlight in Nakhon Ratchasima on April 27 afternoon.
A few seconds later, smoke was seen emerging from one of the boxes before it caught fire.
The blaze spread quickly to the other objects made of light materials until it burned them down to ashes.
Fortunately, the fire didn't reach into the restaurant as the walls were made of concrete and the owners sprayed water on it immediately when they found it.
The Krua Woraya Restaurant owner said their tables, chairs, and supplies were damaged along with the wall that would need repainting. Nobody was hurt by the fire.
It came as officials at the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) said that dozens of regions across the country have seen record temperatures in April, with new highs beating records held as far back as 1958.
Across Southeast Asia, soaring temperatures have lead to a strain on national grids as locals turn on the electricity for air conditioning.
The country's weather bureau warned people to stay indoors, with temperatures this week topping 40 degrees Celsius.
