Firefighters free playful boy from being trapped in school staircase
At 13:41 on April 26th, the Zhengjiaping Fire Station in Tongshan, Xianning City, central China, received a distress call from a teacher reporting that a boy at the school had gotten his thigh stuck in the gap of a cement staircase railing while playing "sliding" on it. Despite the teachers' efforts to free him using various methods, they were unsuccessful, prompting them to seek assistance from the firefighters. After nearly 10 minutes of effort, the trapped student was successfully rescued.
At 13:47, when the firefighters arrived at the scene on the second floor of the school, they found the boy's left leg tightly wedged in the gap of the staircase railing, rendering him completely immobile. Fortunately, the student remained resilient and conscious, while the teachers were visibly distressed. Having been trapped for over ten minutes, with his thigh firmly stuck, the boy could only cling to the railing to maintain balance and alleviate the pain.
Given the urgency of the situation and the risk of prolonged blood circulation interruption, which could cause harm to the boy, a firefighter immediately utilized a hydraulic expander for rescue, breaking apart the cement wall on the outer side of the thigh. Other firefighters assisted by evacuating onlookers, stabilizing the boy's emotions, protecting his body, and regularly monitoring his condition.
Due to the narrow space where the boy was trapped and the difficulty in finding a suitable point to apply force for breaking, the firefighters proceeded cautiously, gradually chipping away at the cement railing. After over ten minutes of effort, the boy's left leg was successfully freed.
Concerned about the boy being frightened and unwilling to move his left leg, the firefighters promptly carried him to the teacher's car and transported him to the hospital for a thorough examination, fortunately finding no major injuries.
