Violence erupted between huge crowds of demonstrators and police near the Place De La Bastille in Paris. The assembled police where forced back by the crowds and accidentally released teargas into their own ranks.

May Day, also known as Labour Day, the annual workers public holiday in France, sees huge protesters from various left wing groups and unions in the the streets of the French Capital. Over 120,000 demonstrators where estimated to have descended on Paris with hundreds arrested.
