Marion County, FL, USA - April 30, 2024

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies successfully apprehended Jason Satterly (DOB: 02/04/1977) following a series of fires reported in the Silver Springs Preservation Area near the 2000 block of NE Baseline Road.

The incident, which unfolded on April 30, 2024, prompted a coordinated response from MCSO and Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) after multiple fires were reported in the area. As deputies and fire rescue units raced to the scene, additional information surfaced indicating the presence of individuals camping in the vicinity.

Utilizing aerial support from MCSO’s Aviation Unit, led by Master Sergeant John Rawls and Corporal Timothy Marton aboard AIR-1, updates on the active fire locations were relayed to ground units. It was during this reconnaissance that Satterly was spotted igniting further fires and attempting to evade authorities by fleeing southbound through the woods.

Satterly was promptly placed under arrest and transported to Marion County Jail, where he remains in custody.
