Gaza Strip - Recent

Storyline:
As talks on a truce in the Gaza conflict make headway, a CGTN correspondent reports that the region's infrastructure is severely damaged, exacerbating the already challenging living conditions for its inhabitants.

Talks on a truce in the Gaza conflict are making progress as the Egyptian government is conducting intensifying contacts with all concerned parties, Egypt's Al-Qahera News reported on Thursday, quoting a high-ranking Egyptian source.

In a phone call with Egyptian Intelligence Chief Abbas Kamel, Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh appreciated Egypt's role and expressed the movement's "positive spirit" in studying the ceasefire proposal.

Mediators said the truce deal includes a 40-day ceasefire and an exchange of Hamas-held hostages for Palestinian prisoners in Israel.

Noor Harazeen, the CGTN correspondent, recounted the devastation she witnessed, noting the complete destruction of vital infrastructure such as electricity, water, internet, and food facilities.

"I witnessed four Israeli wars in Gaza. I witnessed hundreds of escalations. However, nothing is like this one. Gaza's infrastructure is totally damaged. I mean talking about electricity, water, network, Internet, also food infrastructure in Gaza is destroyed. I mean talking about most of the bakeries in Gaza, the supermarkets, the farms, everything is destroyed. Every single, tiny, little detail in my life had changed. I mean, now, I am living as a displaced Palestinian in Rafah city. I lost my home, my home was totally burned by Israeli missiles," Harazeen said.

"Most of the humanitarian aid is actually canned, processed food. It is not very healthy. But actually it does not taste very good," she said.

She said she suffered big lost in this conflict.

"I managed to somehow control my fears and control my emotions. Because what is happening here and what we witnessed here is actually a horrific. I lost a total of 24 members of my family, Al-Harazeen family. And I've also lost a number of friends, a number of colleagues, journalists, reporters, TV correspondents," she said.
