Spain: Woman Rescued After Falling Face-First From Five-Meter Riverbank
Pamplona, Navarre, Spain - May 1, 2024
Two National Police officers rescued a woman who fell into the Arga River in the early hours of last Sunday. The incident occurred in the San Jorge neighborhood of Pamplona, where the young woman fell from a high embankment on Doctor Salva Street.
According to the Navarra Police Headquarters, the events unfolded last Sunday as officers patrolled the neighborhood, which was celebrating its festivities. A resident alerted them that a young woman had fallen down a five-meter slope and was trapped among the roots of a tree just centimeters from the river's current.
The young woman couldn't move and was injured.
Sources state that the young woman couldn't move or stand up as her legs were trapped between the wood.
Given the victim's difficult position, her health condition, and the problematic terrain, the officers requested assistance from firefighters and medical services to safely evacuate her. While awaiting their arrival, they remained alone with her for over 20 minutes.
Once the other responders arrived, firefighters set up a lifeline for a doctor to descend and assess the victim. Subsequently, the woman was secured on a rigid stretcher and evacuated using a pulley system devised by firefighters after cutting down nearby trees.
