STORYLINE:

French musical "Don Juan" was staged in China's Xiamen on Thursday.

The musical has embarked on a tour of China, which coincides with celebrations for the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France this year.

The legend of Don Juan originated in Spain and later was introduced to France.

Featuring plentiful flamenco dancing performances and songs of various genres, the production has been well-received in many Chinese cities.

SOUNDBITE 1 (French): PHILIPPE BERGHELLA, Performer of French musical "Don Juan"
"It is exciting to see that French is so popular in China. I was so happy to see that so many Chinese like French as well as French songs. I believe that this is very encouraging for French singers, composers and those who speak French. "

SOUNDBITE 2 (French): ANGELO DEL VECCHIO, Performer of French musical "Don Juan"
"I will spend some time in China with Notre Dame de Paris from September. I really hope to have the opportunity to discover new musical comedy (in China). It's a great pleasure for us as Europeans to see this sharing, to see this exchange."

SOUNDBITE 3 (French): LUC BEAUGRAND, Director of "Don Juan" tour in China
"And I believe that all the musical comedies that come from France, that are presented in China, all have an important role to play, as much as all the citizens who come and visit China. So yes, it's a very beautiful relationship that has existed for 60 years with France and China, and we hope that it can last very, very long."
