USA: First Responders Brave Submerged Vehicle to Save Trapped Driver
Hamilton County, IN, USA - April 30, 2024
Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies, alongside other emergency responders, executed a daring rescue operation on April 30th, 2024, when they were dispatched to the scene of a vehicle accident at 296th Street and Carpenter Road. The incident involved an overturned vehicle submerged in a culvert, with the occupant trapped inside as water surrounded them.
Upon arrival, deputies and personnel from the Indiana DNR Division of Law Enforcement Conservation Officer, as well as firefighters from the White River Township Fire Department and the Jackson Township Fire Department Hamilton County, immediately initiated rescue efforts. Despite the challenging circumstances, they were determined to extricate the trapped individual.
Deputies Rick Hay, Scott Hazel, and DNR Conservation Officer Billy Doss bravely entered the water, disregarding their own safety, to reach the victim. With the vehicle's windows submerged, the situation was dire. Through innovative thinking and collaborative efforts, the team utilized equipment from the fire department to lift the vehicle, allowing access to the trapped driver.
Their quick actions and resourcefulness proved critical as they managed to free the occupant from the submerged vehicle. Emergency medical personnel promptly attended to the driver, who was then transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis due to complaints of chest pain.
