A freak tropical storm battered a hospital sending the staff running for shelter in northern Thailand on Saturday.

Footage shows the driving rain slamming into the building in Uttaradit on Saturday, May 4. Staff said that windows were shattered injuring several patients on wards. The ceiling in a laboratory also collapsed.

Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin said the powerful storms were due to the approaching monsoon rainy season, which sees violent downpours from May to November.

The torrential weather caused damage across Uttaradit and neighbouring Phrae.
