A Thai man built a wheelchair with two front legs for navigating bumpy roads.

Ni Nattachai Piyatammo was injured and became wheelchair-bound but was unable to travel around his neighbourhood with bumps in the streets in Samut Sakhon province, Thailand.

When he regained his ability to walk, Ni Nattachai had the idea of adding two mechanical limbs to the front of the wheelchair, which could help it move more freely across rough roads.

Footage shows the wheelchair prototype with two robot-like legs taking steps forward and dragging the entire wheelchair with a man seated on its back.

Ni Nattachai said: 'If it's machine-related, I do it for fun. I don't know about engines. When I want to know something, I just experiment.'

His first attempt at recreating the unused wheelchair was to put a jet engine on its back and failed.

He said: 'At first I think I used this wheelchair for something else. I bought a jet engine for a hundred thousand baht.

'I put it behind the wheelchair. A 30 kg pressure jet engine can push the wheelchair so hard it falls over with the person sitting on it.'

But the jet only knocked him over as it was too strong and cancelled the dangerous project.

Then, he wanted the wheelchair to have legs.

He said, 'Wheelchairs have wheels. I wanted them to have legs, so I sat and thought of ways to make the wheelchair walk like a person. I saw a video of a foreigner riding a bicycle with legs.

'But in reality, I tried to make the engine walk fast and found it can trip over our own legs. You'd fall over after tripping over your own legs if you go too fast.'

Ni Nattachai said his prototype needed more improvements but has been fun for him to ride.

He said: 'Here I tried by myself and found out it's not very good. Wheels work better. It's not perfect. When you ride it for fun, it jumps.

'I think a shock absorber might help. Everybody is smart, and if people don't give up, they can go far. As long as they have supporters.'

SUBTITLES

1.11 Hello my name is Ni Nattachai Piyatammo. I'm the owner of the page Leu Dai Som Mai dai. Speaking of DIY, I like it a lot. I do everything, I do many things

1.20 I converted an engine into an air compressor and converted a gasoline engine to a direct injection engine. I do it all for fun. If it's machine related, I do it for fun

1.30 I don't know about engines. When I want to know something I just experiment. Most of my experiments go wrong. I was a disabled person. I couldn't walk

1.39 I only stayed in bed then I had this wheelchair. The roads at home are rough and are not like the concrete ones in Bangkok. You need a special vehicle to drive on rough roads so I used this wheelchair at home

1.52 But when I slowly gained my ability to walk, I stopped using the wheelchair. So I tried making some use of it. I experiment with the wheelchair for fun

1.58 At first I think I used this wheelchair for something else. I bought a jet engine for a hundred thousand baht. I put it behind the wheelchair. A 30 kg pressure jet engine can push the wheelchair so hard it falls over with the person sitting on it.

2.10 It knocked me over and the wheel was not strong so it hit the ground and broke. I had to cancel that project. I thought that's fine, we'll just remove it all and do a walking machine

2.22 Wheelchair have wheels. I wanted it to have legs so. I sat and thought of ways to make the wheelchair walk like a person. I saw a video of a foreigner riding a bicycle with legs

2.33 So I thought if I did the same, my wheelchair would be able to walk. Humans can walk on the ground well, the leg must be able to move well

2.41 But in reality I tried to make the engine walk fast and found it can trip over our own legs. You'd fall over after tripping over your own legs if you go too fast.

2.53 It's the same if we run fast and fall over. It's exactly the same. So I tried and found it cannot be used.

3.01 I found out why people who were experienced did not make the engine walk. I tried and knew by myself. I wanted to know so I tried by myself for fun

3.09 Here I tried by myself and found out it's not very good. Wheels work better. It's not perfect, when you ride it for fun, it jumps.

3.19 I think a shock absorber might help. Everybody is smart, if people didn't give up, they could go far. As long as they have supporters.

3.30 As long as they have the tools. Please subscribe to my channel Leu Dai Som Mai dai. We have Facebook and YouTube. Don't forget to click like on my page too.
