Tree with a human face baffles residents in Thailand
A tree with a bizarre human face baffled residents in Thailand.
The taengwood balau tree was discovered by hikers at the Ban Taling Chan Community Forest in Nakhon Ratchasima province and had since attracted visitors to marvel the unusually shaped branches that looked like it had two eyes, a nose, and a mouth.
Footage shows the tall hardwood which had the face-shaped features in the middle on April 21.
The stem had a circumference large enough for a person to hug it, and the burl, which resembled a human face, was located in the middle.
The wild tree was located in the forest near Khon Buri National Forest Reserve and Thap Lan National Park, which was home to more than 10,000 cycads, which are palmlike woody plants.
Taengwood balau, also known as balau, is a type of tropical hardwood that comes from trees of the Shorea species. These trees are found primarily in Southeast Asia, particularly in Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
It is an extremely dense and durable wood, making it suitable for heavy construction purposes like wharves, bridges, railway sleepers, and outdoor decking.
