In a daring rescue operation on May 3, 2024, the Howth RNLI responded to an emergency involving a family of six whose powerboat experienced engine failure and became stranded on rocks near Lambay Island, Dublin, Ireland.

Despite the challenging conditions, the crew swiftly launched an XP boat to assess the situation. All six individuals were safely recovered by the Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116. The family's use of lifejackets and quick call for help were commended by the Howth RNLI.

Howth RNLI launched All-Weather lifeboat to an emergency involving a family of six whose powerboat suffered engine failure and ended up on rocks at Lambay Island.

Once on scene, the crew quickly launched the XP boat so that they could get in close and assess the situation.

Given the treacherous location, the decision was taken to recover all six casualties on board Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116.

The family were all wearing lifejackets and although shaken, were in good health. Howth RNLI comments that they did the right thing in calling for help as soon as they got into difficulty.
