STORYLINE:
Sales of Volvo Cars soared by 27 percent in April 2024 compared to the same month last year, the carmaker said on Monday.
The company sold 65,838 vehicles in April, an increase Volvo said was mainly driven by sales in Europe, which were up by 65 percent year-on-year.
Meanwhile, global sales of electrified models were up 56 percent, and fully electric models were up by 94 percent compared with April 2023, the company said.
From January through April, 214,914 vehicles were sold, corresponding to a 16 percent increase compared with the same period last year.
"This performance demonstrates we are making good progress on our guidance of retail sales growth of at least 15 percent for the full year 2024," said Bjorn Annwall, chief commercial officer and deputy CEO at Volvo Cars.
In 2023, global sales reached a record 708,716 cars, while the revenue and core operating profit also reached new highs, the company said in February.
The carmaker, which is headquartered in the Swedish city of Gothenburg, had around 43,400 full-time employees as of December 2023.
Its main production plants are situated in Gothenburg, Ghent of Belgium, South Carolina of the United States, and the Chinese cities of Chengdu, Daqing and Taizhou.
The company also has research and development and design centers in Gothenburg and China's Shanghai.
