This is the dramatic moment strong winds toppled a power pole during a severe storm in southern Thailand.

Footage shows the powerful gale battering buildings before a violent gust knocked down an electric pole in front of a clinic in Songkhla's Hat Yai district on May 5.

High-voltage wires were heard sparking, with the cables blocking the clinic's entrance.

Local media reported that the summer storm damaged billboards and more than 10 power poles. No casualties or injuries were reported.

Hat Yai Mayor Sakorn Thongmunee said officials were coordinating with the Provincial Electricity Authority to assess the damage and make repairs.

The Thai Meteorological Department has forecasted hot weather during the day and isolated thundershowers in the afternoon for the east coast of southern Thailand, including Songkhla province.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
