Four medics were suspended for allegedly locking up a patient inside a hospital in India.

The patient, identified in local reports as Shakoor Ahamad, in his 70s, was given glucose before reportedly being left alone in the New Type Primary Health Center in Kashmir's Anantnag district on May 6 afternoon.

Realising he had been left alone, Shakoor opened a window in the ward and called out to passers-by for help.

Footage shows the man talking to locals from the window as other people rushed over to open the hospital gate.

Shakoor said: 'I was in the hospital from 2:00 pm. They injected glucose but didn't return to check on me.'

He said he was bewildered upon realising he was left alone in the unattended hospital, and removed the IV on his arm to walk to the window and call for help.

Outraged residents claimed the hospital employed careless doctors.

Dr. Mohammad Yousuf, Block Medical Officer (BMO) of Verinag, said immediate action has been taken against the four negligent medics, including a doctor and a pharmacist, and an investigation has been initiated into the matter.
