"Hamas's head of political bureau informed the Qatari prime minister and Egyptian intelligence chief on Monday of their acceptance of a ceasefire proposal put forward by both mediators.
Meanwhile, the Israeli war cabinet decided that Israel would continue the operation in Rafah.
These developments came after Israeli occupation forces ordered the evacuation of Rafah city in southern Gaza, preparing for a full military invasion of the city. In response, thousands of Palestinians have started to flee the city amidst the recent escalation of tensions."
SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): OM MOHAMMED, Resident in Rafah
"I don't know where to go. We were defeated and dispersed in the war. The Israelis stormed our region for four months or more and scattered our lives, children. We live in great distress."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic) IBRAHIM HAMAYDA, Resident in Rafah
"They (the Israeli army) asked us to evacuate the entire area, including the neighborhoods of Al-Jeneina and Al-Shuka, and I will go to the safe area that the army told us about."
Israel's military said on Monday night that it was carrying out large-scale airstrikes in Rafah, hours after Hamas announced acceptance of an Egyptian-Qatari proposal for a ceasefire in the strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said that the proposal is far from meeting Israel's "core demands," and the government will send a delegation to Cairo to exhaust every possibility of reaching an agreement acceptable to Israel.
Egypt is scheduled to host a new round of talks with Hamas and Israel on Tuesday to consider the three-stage ceasefire deal that was already agreed upon by the Hamas side.
