A stricken passenger plane flipped rudder-over-nose when it tried to land on a floodwater pond.

The propellor plane had been forced into making an emergency landing in Kostanay, Kazakhstan, after rapidly losing height on May 3.

Video footage of the landing shows the plane, operated by local airline Navigator, touching down on the water and flipping over.

It was left lying flat on its back as paramedics waded over to the vehicle with a trolly.

The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan said: 'There were two crew members and three passengers on board the aircraft.

'All passengers and crew members were taken to Arkalyk City Hospital by the EmergencySituations Department of Kostanay Region.

'According to preliminary information, there are no casualties.

'Officers of the Vehicle Incident and Accident Investigation Department have been sent to the scene of the incident.

'The reasons for this incident are being determined.'

The shallow pond is believed to be filled with water from ice and snow that had melted in the warming spring weather.
