Explosive Fail: Rubbing Alcohol Whoosh Bottle Goes Wrong, a cracked bottle & too much oxidizer makes spectacular lesson
While recording burning whoosh bottle fire demonstrations a 10 gallon glass bottle with a crack in it was used.
This crack made for a point of failure when too much oxygen was added to the rubbing alcohol fume mix.
The resulting over pressure fiery explosion destroyed the bottle, exploding out dangerously sharp glass shards and making for a spectacular failure.
Fortunately no one was injured from this failed demonstration due in part to usage of personal protective equipment and lessons were learned.
