USA: More than 233 people affected by floods in Texas rescued

Torrential rains continue to lash southeast Texas, triggering a series of floods that have led to mass rescue operations. According to reports from the Harris County emergency office, more than 233 people and 164 pets have been evacuated so far, with no fatalities or injuries reported.
Local authorities, including Jasper, Newton and Tyler counties, remain with flood watches in effect and Houston, in particular, remains on high alert. Rain is expected to continue through Sunday, with rainfall that could reach up to 76 milliliters in Houston and up to 200 milliliters in some isolated areas of southeast Texas, according to the National Weather Service.
The federal emergency management agency (FEMA) has forecast that rivers in East Texas will peak in the next 24 hours, with a slow recession that could maintain significant flood levels through midweek.
