Ceiling collapses on family as they eat meal
This is the dramatic moment a ceiling collapsed on a family while they were having a meal.
The residents were seated at their dining table eating noodles when a storm toppled a eucalyptus tree onto their roof in Lamphun province, Thailand, on May 7.
CCTV footage shows the house appearing to rattle from the strong winds shortly before the ceiling panels crashed onto two children.
The youngsters were shocked but uninjured from the incident. The family said the costs of repairs to the roof would be the equivalent of around a thousand dollars.
The Thai Meteorological Department on May 7 forecasted hot weather and haze to prevail in northern Thailand, including Lamphun, with possible scattered thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and hail in the afternoon.
Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
