Doctors removed a massive 6.8kg tumour that was sprouting from a man's head in India.

A team of surgeons performed the marathon 10-hour surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, May 7.

They successfully cut out the huge lump that had been growing from the head of Rabindra Bisui, 51, for more than 25 years, officials said.

Dr. Sanjay Giri, Head of the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, said the team was composed of specialists from various departments, including neurosurgery, anesthesiology, interventional radiology, and surgical oncology.

He added that the operation was risky because of the numerous blood vessels surrounding the synovial sarcoma tumour - a rare type of slow-growing cancer that typically affects connective tissues.

Despite the challenges, the surgery was a success, with careful planning and cutting-edge techniques ensuring the preservation of Rabindra's skull.

Rabindra, from West Bengal, said the gruesome growth sprouted on his head 25 years ago. It continued to swell, forming lumps on top of lumps with the skin darkening until his condition hindered his daily activities.

Two weeks after his surgery, he has recovered and is now able to move freely.

Speaking to local media, he said: 'I am fully well now and feel easy. The doctors saved my life. They are like God.'

Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, commended the team's success, noting the complete removal of the malignant tumor and the absence of post-operative complications.

He said in a statement: 'The tumour had been afflicting the patient for over two decades. This achievement highlights the dedication and collaborative efforts of a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals. I congratulate the whole team on their triumph.'
