This is the dramatic moment a market roof collapsed during a violent storm in Thailand.

Strong winds and rain ripped through the Jatujak Market in Lamphun province, dismantling the roof of a covered carpark on May 7.

Onlooker Peaw, who was taking shelter inside his car, said he went to the market to buy supplies for his coffee shop.

However, while waiting for the storm to pass, the sudden gale battered the area and caused the roof to collapse.

He said: 'I decided to close my cafe for a day because I was worried about the dangerous weather.'

The incident came as the Thai Meteorological Department issued warnings about the summer storm.

The agency said southerly and southeasterly winds were prevailing across the north, northeast, east, and central regions of Thailand, causing possible thunderstorms and hail on May 6 and 7.

Locals were advised to avoid outdoor activities during the inclement weather.
