STORYLINE:
Kenyan officials and hundreds of community members attended a commemoration on Thursday in honor of 60 people who were killed in a dam burst.
Pictures of the victims were put up in remembrance.
A dam burst on April 29 in the town of Mai Mahiu, about 60 kilometers north of the Kenyan capital of Nairobi, after a nearby river overflowed due to flash floods.

"I want to ask Kenyans to be responsible. I want to ask the people of Kenya to take care of their lives and their own safety first, even before the government can support and help."
According to Kenyan authorities, floods have killed more than 260 people and displaced over 378,000 others as heavy rains of 200 mm a day pound various parts of the country.
The crisis has affected 41 out of 47 counties, with most of the displaced people living at congested camps in schools and churches.
