A niece's DIY haircut failed when her aunt cut it too short.

Footage shows Joy Justine with her long, black hair split into two parts, the top and bottom, in Pangasinan, the Philippines.

They used a tailor's scissors, and the older woman Marly Neaperos, who was assisting her, cut the bottom part shorter.

Joy said: ‘I saw that haircut on Facebook, and I thought it looked nice. Since I couldn't cut the back by myself, I asked my aunt for help.

‘I told her just to trim the end, but she cut more than I expected. We didn't understand each other well. When I looked at it, I realized she cut it too long. I felt a bit sad, but I just laughed it off. I can't blame my aunt; I just asked for a favour. I'll let it grow longer now.'

After watching more online tutorials, Joy ended up fixing her hair with shorter waves.
