If extremely rare worldwide solar light shows aren't enough, a rare natural event is unfolding in Western Kentucky and surrounding region as two distinct broods of cicadas, Brood XIX and Brood XIII, are emerging simultaneously for the first time since the early 19th century, during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson. This dual emergence, involving a 13-year cycle brood and a 17-year cycle brood, marked a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon not seen in over 200 years. The forest in a park in Kuttawa, Kentucky on Lake Barkley is very loud currently with the roar of cicadas. It was amazing to see so many of these bugs everywhere.
