A private jet veered off the runway during heavy rain in Nigeria.

The Embraer ERJ145LR experienced problems when it landed at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) in Lagos on May 11.

It skidded onto the grass causing panic among the passengers onboard. They were seen filing out of the plane along runway 18L at around 12:29 local time.

Officials said there were no injuries to the 52 passengers and three crew. The plane, which is owned by XeJet, was taken out of service while technicians assessed the damage

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said: 'There were no casualties as a result of the incident. FAAN remains committed to providing seamless service to the Nigerian public.'

Meteorological data from Lagos at the time showed terrible weather conditions, with strong northerly winds gusting up to 45 knots, resulting in tailwinds for runway 18L.

Thunderstorm activity, rain, and reduced visibility were reported.

XEJet said that it is working with Nigerian authorities and civil aviation officials to resolve the incident involving the plane, with the registration 5N-BZZ.
