Santa Clarita Alleged Driver Leaves Scene Following Rollover
05/12/2024 07:47 pm (GMT-0700) | SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Location: 23300 8th St., Newhall, Santa Clarita.
A traffic collision was reported on the intersection of 8th Street and Valley Street.
Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived at the location and no one was transported.
Per radio scanner, one vehicle had crashed and the driver had fled on foot and jumped a fence at the corner of Valley Street and 8th Street. Neighbors also reported that the passengers in the vehicle were trying to hide things before deputies arrived.
Sheriff's arrived at the location and were not able to find the alleged driver. Neighbors said that he had removed one of his shirts and ran away leaving the other passengers inside the rolled over vehicle.
The Kia Sorrento was traveling eastbound on 8th Street when it crashed into boulders in front of the property, hit a tree and then struck a parked van on the driveway leaving the SUV with major front end damage.
About 15 minutes later, the alleged driver came back to the scene of the crash and said "they let me go." He was placed into handcuffs and was taken into custody. It's unknown if drugs or alcohol was factor in the cause of the crash.
Sheriff's deputies at the scene were not able to confirm if the alleged driver was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or had outstanding warrants.
