Workers salvage 8 tonnes of dead fish from lake amidst concerns over recent rainstorms in southern China
A large number of dead fish appeared in a lake in southern China.
The vide was filmed in Haikou City in Hainan Province on May 12. A considerable amount of dead fish floating on the surface of the Hongcheng Lake. With a gust of wind blowing across the lake, the dead fish drifted with the waves, dispersing across the water's surface.
Workers on the scene reported that from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm, approximately 8 tonnes of dead fish were salvaged from the Hongcheng Lake's surface.
The head of the salvage operation at Hongcheng Lake, from Haikou Jinghuan Urban Environmental Services Co., Ltd., explained that upon discovering the large number of dead fish floating on the lake's surface that morning, the company immediately activated an emergency plan. They organised 40 sanitation workers to use boats to salvage the fish from the lake and manually collect them from the shore.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the large number of dead fish in lake may be due to frequent heavy rainstorms in the city recently, causing seawater to backflow into the inland lake.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
