Baghlan, Afghanistan - May 12, 2024

Flash floods in Baghlan province in northeastern Afghanistan have killed 311 people, according to an interim toll reported Saturday by the World Food Programme (WFP).

Earlier, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), another UN agency, reported more than 200 dead in Friday's catastrophic floods.

The Taliban fundamentalist movement estimates that "hundreds" of people have died in the new floods that have hit Afghanistan in recent days, particularly in the provinces of Baglan, Badakhsan, Ghor and Herat, in the north, centre and west of the country.
