On May 12, 2024, tragedy struck in Belgorod, Russia, as a residential building became the target of shelling during intense conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported the recovery of 15 bodies from the rubble, with 17 individuals miraculously rescued. Among the deceased were two children, adding to the sorrow of the event. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov highlighted the efforts to provide support and shelter to those affected, with some finding refuge with relatives and others placed in temporary rescue centers. The incident, attributed to a downed Tochka-U missile, left a ten-story panel building severely damaged, with 16 apartments collapsing and significant destruction throughout.
