Wildlife photographer Ewan Wilson filmed as he encountered a rare Montpellier snake, a mildly venomous serpent, resting in the middle of a cycle path in the Sierra De Guarama mountains, Spain.

Wilson told Newsflare: "The 3-and-a-half-foot reptile was sitting in the middle of a cycle road sunbathing, which can be very dangerous for her.

"It's normally not a good idea to move an animal from the there desired location, as they know what they are doing. But in this case, she could have easily been killed by an off the lead dog or a cyclist who may not have noticed her.

"So I thought it necessary to move her off the road and into a nearby bush next to a rock. A perfect place for her to continue sunbathing.

"Snakes are very important for their ecosystems. They manage rodent populations like rats, mice, and even small rabbits, and they are also prey to animals like hawks, foxes, and storks.

"Seeing her is a good sign. it means I'm going to enjoy watching a lot more wildlife."
