STORYLINE:

China is actively pushing for the use of green technologies and biomass energy to help realize its dual carbon goals.

In Jinan, east China's Shandong Province, a company has turned various types of plant straws into green bio-based products.

"The main components in straw are hemicellulose, lignin, and cellulose. Utilizing these elements can produce a variety of product, such as substitutes for petroleum and coal, green methanol, cellulosic ethanol, aviation kerosene, bio-based diesel and kerosene, and others."

Since 2023, the first phase of a million-tonne level biomass refining integrated project has been put into operation by Shengquan. So far, it can process 500,000 tonnes of plant straws annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 600,000 to 700,000 tonnes per year.

"At present, our exported products are mainly phenolic resin and foundry resin. The main export countries are located in Southeast Asia, Europe and America. In the past seven or eight years, our overseas business has been growing at a rate of about over 20 percent each year, with the highest growth of about 30 percent last year."
