A security guard allegedly trapped in a drain for four days was rescued by police in Thailand.

Yotsakorn Jannamsai, 44, was said to be collecting money owed to him by his friend when he was allegedly chased by a cop near the Bang Pho Police Station in Bangkok.

To escape his pursuer, Yotsakorn claimed he crawled into a drainage pipe but found himself stuck in the sewer near Yommarat junction for four days.

He was rescued on May 11, after a motorcycle rider who had parked nearby heard him calling for help.

Footage shows responders and staff of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration prying up the grates of the drain amid a drizzle that caused the water inside to rise to chest level.

The rescuers then lowered a ladder into the sewage, helping Yotsakorn climb back up onto the pavement.

He was taken to the Petchawet Hospital for treatment.

Police Colonel Apichai Hualjit, superintendent of Bang Pho Police Station, said officers the man 'gave confusing accounts' while being questioned.

Yotsakorn, who works as a security guard and has no criminal record, allegedly claimed that he was looking for his friend named Ple when a group of around 20 people reportedly attacked him and tried to force drugs on him.

He added he managed to escape and hail a taxi to flee to the Bang Pho junction. When the cab stopped at a red light, Yotsakorn said he jumped out of the vehicle and hid in a drainage pipe.

However, authorities said they were investigating the claims as they did not believe Yotsakorn's account of events.

Police Colonel Apichai said: 'The information the man gave was confusing. Sometimes, he claimed he could not remember the details.

'He also provided his girlfriend's number, but no one would answer it. We think he may need psychiatric help.'

Police said they were reviewing CCTV footage in the area to verify Yotsakorn's testimony.
