A thirsty wild elephant drank water from storage jars in the garden.

Footage shows the jumbo dipping its trunk in one of the containers at the Khao Yai Wild Elephant Surveillance compound in the national park in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand on April 30.

The animal also sprayed water onto its back with its trunk to cool off in the hot weather.

Park ranger Praphas Wanglikklang said: 'The elephant enjoyed the cold water.'

Thailand has an estimated 3,084-3,500 elephants in the wid. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in country at the beginning of the 20th century.
