China: Chinese automakers race to integrate AI into smart cockpits
[Voiceover]
Chinese automakers are accelerating efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into their vehicles' cockpits to boost safety and elevate people's driving experiences.
Chinese NEV brand Jiyue Auto, a joint venture between automaker Geely and tech giant Baidu, is one of the early adopters in the race to use AI in passenger vehicles.
Its AI-based voice assistant SIMO can do things like open the doors or trunk, but it can also manage "personal assistant" tasks like drafting a speech then sending it to an app on your phone.

Xia Yiping, CEO, Jiyue Auto:
"So far, 99 percent of vehicle functions are under intelligent control. In an era of large language model, there's a significant shift: when you need to access information, you don't have to spend a lot of effort opening apps."

For the autonomous vehicles of the future, integrated general-purpose AI models will make cars safer by obtaining and processing more information about the vehicle's environment, and make them more efficient by better optimizing the vehicle's battery energy.

Wang Zhongyuan, President, Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence:
"The general-purpose large language models can bring new changes to smart cockpit and smarter interactions between drivers and vehicles. Therefore, we can see that unmanned electric vehicles and intelligent cars are important scenarios for the implementation of these large language models."

According to a report from global management consulting firm McKinsey and Co, China is set to become the world's largest market for autonomous vehicles, with revenues expected to exceed 500 billion U.S. dollars by 2030.
