This is the amusing moment a baby elephant was seen living his best life - rolling in mud during a rainstorm.

Sukalya Vimanthong witnessed the little jumbo playing on the muddy trail following recent heavy rain in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on May 15.

Footage shows the animal, soaking wet, bumping its head on the dirt.

Sukalya said: 'The weather lately was hot, and luckily it rained so the elephant enjoyed showering in it.'

The baby jumbo was seen inside the sprawling forests managed by a local elephant sanctuary in the northern region.

Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants living in the wild and a similar number in captivity.

The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in Thailand at the beginning of the 20th century. The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
