Greenland - May 15, 2024

The Icelandic Coast Guard embarked on a critical mission to aid ailing passengers aboard a cruise ship navigating the frigid waters off the east coast of Greenland. Tasked with responding to the urgent medical needs of one of the passengers, the Coast Guard helicopter squad sprang into action at the behest of a doctor onboard the vessel.

Amidst the remote and challenging maritime conditions, the crew of TF-EIR embarked on a lengthy flight to reach the stricken cruise ship.

Traversing vast distances, the helicopter crew navigated from Reykjavik to the ship's location, approximately 130 nautical miles north of Horn. Despite the formidable obstacles posed by the elements, the operation proceeded smoothly, with the patient safely lifted aboard the helicopter and attended to under optimal conditions.

Following the successful retrieval of the patient, the helicopter made a pit stop in Isafjorour to refuel before continuing its journey back to Reykjavik. Upon arrival, the patient was promptly transported to Landspitali, ensuring they received the necessary medical attention without delay.
