Police arrest man for breaking into lottery station and stealing safe in China
Police officers arrested a man for breaking into a lottery station and stealing a safe in northern China.
CCTV footage filmed in Shenyang City in Liaoning Province on April 12, shows a man approaching a lottery shop with its shutter still raised. After scanning the surroundings for any witnesses, the individual picked up a large stone and hurled it at the store's glass door.
With the entry gained, the perpetrator swiftly entered the lottery station. Approximately 5 minutes later, a black metal safe was seen tossed out through the broken door, evidently stolen from the premises.
Struggling to carry the weight, the man opted to push the safe along the road.
Deputy Director Huo Qingda of the Yuhong Police Station on Yingbin Road commented, "Pushing a safe down the street made the suspect highly conspicuous. We received the report at 7:00 p.m. that day and managed to apprehend the suspect inside a residential building in the Tiexi District of Shenyang."
Upon capture, the suspect, identified as Zhang, confessed that the decision to rob the lottery station was impulsive. "I've been working here for two jobs, but with no savings, frustrations built up. I was angry and broke," Zhang explained.
Fuelled by frustration and a few drinks, Zhang wandered the streets until he spotted the unlatched shutter of the lottery station. After finding little of value inside, Zhang decided to take the safe itself.
For over 3 kilometres, Zhang pushed the 50-kilogram safe from Yuhong District to Tiexi District, resting intermittently to avoid suspicion. Despite the effort, Zhang remained resolute, convinced the safe contained valuable items.
However, Zhang's journey was cut short when patrolling officers apprehended him while taking a breather in a hallway. Although the safe was severely damaged, its contents, including lottery tickets and cash, were returned intact to the lottery station.
Presently, Zhang faces detention for theft, awaiting the due process of the law.
