This is the terrifying moment a monitor lizard sparked panic by rampaging through a home in Thailand.

Pongsatorn Wannapirun witnessed the reptile storming his grandfather's house in Samut Prakan, Thailand, on May 13.

Footage shows the animal hiding under the bed as Pongsatorn and his siblings try to locate it using a flashlight in an attempt to catch it.

Their grandfather asked for their help to remove the animal after it got inside on May 12, staying in the house for a day.

Fortunately, they managed to chase it away, and it ran out by itself.

Pongsatorn said: 'There is a swamp near the house, so it might have come from there.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
