The cold lava eruption ravaged homes, rice fields, and severed road access, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 67 lives, including several children, with twenty others still missing.

Monsoon rains and a significant mudslide, triggered by a cold lava flow from Mount Marapi, led to breaching a river's banks, devastating mountainside villages across four districts in West Sumatra province. This catastrophic event occurred just before midnight on Saturday, May 12.
