Orangutan cools off with icy towel and palmetto fan amid hit wave
An orangutan was seen cooling off with an icy towel and a fan amid a heatwave.
Mimi, the primate, was given a frozen face towel and a large palmetto leaf as a hand fan during the hot weather conditions at the Shou Shan Zoo in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on May 8.
Footage shows the animal licking the cloth and munching on the ice.
Then, it rubbed the handkerchief on the leaf to melt the frozen water.
Once it thawed, the animal squeezed the towel and wiped it on his face and neck.
The country experienced temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius and high humidity levels, causing discomfort among animals. The zoo has made great efforts to help the animals cool off to prevent dehydration and possible heatstroke.
