Thai cult leader claims to cure all illnesses with bizarre pot ritual
A Thai cult leader claims he can cure all illnesses with a bizarre ritual using an aluminium pot.
Pradit Anprakhon, also known as Luang Pu Trai, 46, touts the unusual ceremony as a panacea that can heal sickness, from eye problems to even chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes.
Superstitious patients from across the country visit him at his home in Buriram province in Thailand, where he conducts the pot ritual and records the 'miraculous' process to post on his social media.
Video shows Pradit placing the metal kitchenware - which appears to be inscribed with a rune - on his followers' heads, reciting a spell before tapping the bottom of the pot lightly.
His followers claim the ritual genuinely healed them of their ailments, including food allergies, haemorrhoids, chronic coughing, insomnia, and muscle weakness.
A Thai housewife who brought her paralysed Hungarian husband to Pradit claimed he has even regained the ability to walk.
However, when probed by local media to explain his alleged miracles on May 14, Pradit retreated into his house, with his followers barring the reporters from entering.
Pradit's mother Tom Anprakhon, 68, said: 'My son is ordained. He was a novice studying Buddha's teachings and has acquired a lot of knowledge.
'He told me he plans to open another branch so he can accommodate the large number of disciples visiting him.'
A villager, Porn Kodprakhon, 66, claimed Pradit has been healing sick people for several years and has even flown to other countries to provide his services.
She said: 'His methods are unorthodox and different from traditional medicine. They involve things like casting spells on rice or covering the head with pots. The rituals are strange but they work.'
Today, the cult leader Pradit has expanded his pot ritual business. He now sells 150-baht (3.25 GBP) bars of 'healing soap' which allegedly cures muscle stiffness. He also makes lucky amulets said to bring good luck and wealth to business owners.
Samniang, 55, a resident, said Pradit's cult was established around two years ago, but only recently gained popularity.
She said: 'Most of his followers are people from other provinces. The locals who live here have never tried his treatments.'
